Quotes worth sharing on fear, failure, happiness, goals and life

Posted by: Naz Laila

The topic for this month’s blog circle is “Favourite quotes”. I have been referring to few of my favouring quotes over last few months when feeling uncertain and scared. As I navigate through this stage of my life I have been trying to teach myself to have  more faith on myself and create happiness. These are the quotes that I have found extremely helpful and inspiring. Hope you will find them useful as well.

“Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture. Do not build up obstacles in your imagination.”- Norman V Peale

“If you want to reach a goal, you must “see the reaching” in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal.”- Zig Ziglar

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.”- Arthur C . Clarke

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”- Mother Teresa

“It isn’t what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” –Dale Carnegie

“Those who are not looking for happiness are the most likely to find it, because those who are searching forget that the surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others.” –Martin Luther King Jr

“A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it.” –J. R. R. Tolkien

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”- Nelson Mandela

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” –Elanor Roosevelt

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”- John Lennon

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”-PAULO COELHO

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” – J.K. Rowling

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”- Randy Pausch

“And now go, and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for you being here. Make good art.”- Neil Gaiman

“Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers,

but to be fearless in facing them.

Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but

for the heart to conquer it.”

— Rabindranath Tagore

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” –Thomas Merton

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious – the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.” – Albert Einstein

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” – George Bernard Shaw

“Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.”- Haruki Murakami

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”-Mark Twain

“Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.”-   Nelson Mandela

“We all go through life bristling at our external limitations, but the most difficult chains to break are inside us.”-Bradley Whitford

“Your time is limited; so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”- Steve Jobs

“Above all, remember: You are not your resume. External measures won’t repair you. Money won’t fix you. Applause, celebrity, no number of victories will do it. The only honor that counts is that which you earn and that which you bestow. Honor yourself”-  Doug Marlette

“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.” –George Bernard Shaw

“All of you want to do well. But if you do not do good, too, then doing well will never be enough. It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes. It is so easy to take for granted the color of the azaleas, the sheen of the limestone on Fifth Avenue, the color of our kid’s eyes, the way the melody in a symphony rises and falls and disappears and rises again. It is so easy to exist instead of live.”- Anna Quindlen

Wow! That is one impressive list of quotes! I really like the one you listed from Arthur C. Clarke: “The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.” I really needed that one today <3

LOVE that you shared so many quotes on subjects that I hold near and dear. Of those you listed, my favorite by far is the one from Mother Teresa. The last line speaks to my soul, “…in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.” Thank you for this beautiful journal prompt.
